PETBOTTLE shelter

At the Abiko International Outdoor Art Exhibition, I proposed a shelter made from 10,000 recycled plastic bottles. The project aimed to give a new purpose to plastic bottles, which are often seen as non-combustible waste. By thoroughly cleaning the bottles, I opened their caps, placed fabric between the bottle neck and the cap, and then resealed them to create a secure connection between each bottle. Repeating this process formed an arching dome, following the natural curve of the bottles.

The transparent plastic bottles allowed soft light to filter through, creating a canopy that offered both shade and a sense of poetic, otherworldly space. This design was not just about recycling, but about the artistic process of breathing new life into discarded materials, transforming waste into a dynamic architectural form.
